BLESSED ANNE CATHERINE EMMERICH ON THE “TWO POPES”.
By David Moorcroft
Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich
Extremist traditionalist groups in or on the fringes of the Catholic Church and followers of false or unapproved private revelations are making much of an alleged “prophecy of the Two Popes” in the writings of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich. They claim that the “prophecy” concerns the post-Vatican II Church, and especially the relationship between Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict. The text itself clearly proves this to be wholly false. The recorded words of Bl. Anne are not a prophecy, but a vision. The relevant passages are quoted below:
How many conspiracy theories about Pope Francis have you heard? It’s likely that you have come across at least one, and if your natural reaction was to dismiss it out of hand, perhaps you’ve missed a trick. The author of a new book on the Pope’s ‘not-so-cultured despisers’ argues that such narratives have a sociological significance and require our attention if we are to understand the phenomenon of Pope Francis. (...)
First type ‘Pope Francis False Prophet’ into an internet video search engine. Sort results by number of views. You may well be surprised to discover the size of the audience for conspiratorial narratives concerning Jorge Mario Bergoglio. (...)
Since the election of Pope Francis, certain factions on the fringes of the Catholic Church, in particular extreme traditionalists and quasi-sectarian groups gathered around spurious and patently false private revelations have been exploiting the Internet for the propagation of bogus prophecies attributed to Saints and Blesseds of the Church. The claim is made that these “prophecies” have foretold the election of Pope Francis and its dire consequences for the Church.
(1) A bogus prophecy falsely attributed to St Francis of Assisi which foretells the coming of an uncanonically elected “destroyer pope” has been widely circulated.
My spiritual adventure started with a mistake, a really big mistake. I came across Maria Divine Mercy’s messages while searching on Google. At the time I was interested in anything but the faith. Even so, I began reading them.
Initially, I found the messages interesting because they spoke about the future, the love of God, the Apocalypse - and I was curious how it was all going to work out. Curiosity got the better of me though it would be a long time before I would admit it.
Is Francis really a pope, or could he possibly be a heretic and an anti-pope? This is a question that Joe Heschmeyer, a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Kansas City, answers on a Shameless Popery blog. Highly recommended reading for those with any doubts in their mind.
"In recent days, there's been a nasty dustup between several prominent Catholic bloggers. The argument was ostensibly about “tone,” and it quickly devolved into a lot of bruised egos, and personal attacks on other Catholics for making personal attacks. It was an ugly spectacle, and I've stayed well clear of it... Continue reading Sedevacantism is Impossible: How We Can Know Francis is Pope

Dr Kelly Bowring
Prophet’, Dr Kelly Bowring represents himself as ‘a Catholic theologian and author of best-selling books such as “The Secrets, Chastisement, and Triumph” and “The Great Battle Has Begun”. So we have a Catholic theologian who rakes in the shekels and puts ‘Dr’ in front of his name. We should be in for a real treat concerning the alleged revelations from heaven to ‘Maria Divine Mercy’ (MDM).
His first sentence reads:
‘The messages of Maria Divine Mercy(MDM), which she is reportedly receiving from heavenly sources, are plausible.’
“Those of you who side with the false prophet and the antichrist will be ensnared by Satan and he will not let you go free. Those of you who walk alongside My enemies and swallow the chalice of the serpent will be destroyed by him should you dare to challenge him.” Jesus to Maria Divine Mercy, Oct. 20, 2013
Who is this serpent? It is Satan. Who is the false prophet? Pope Francis. MDM warns (through her many voices) that he will create a new “one world church” in cooperation with the Antichrist. (July 30, 2012, Jan.18, 2012, May 7, 2012) He is one of the enemies of Jesus. Furthermore, the faithful, who “blindly” “side with” the Vicar of Christ, will be led by him “like lambs to the slaughter.” (Jan.18, 2012)
The theologian Dr Mark Miravalle has published an article condemning the alleged prophetic messages to an anonymous ‘seer’ who calls herself ‘Maria Divine Mercy’ (MDM). The article has provoked a response from Mr Arthur Policarpio on his website ‘Totus Tuus, Maria’.
Mr Policarpio claims to be a ‘Catholic writer’. There are many like him, taking up space on the Internet and representing every strain of ‘Catholic’ thought abroad in the world. If we were Anglicans, we could call ‘Catholic writers’ a Broad Church. So where in this Latitudinarian profession do we place Mr Policarpio?
At the beginning of his ‘Response’, he accepts without question ‘the prophecies and messages given by Our Lord to the Irish seer “Maria Divine Mercy”.’ It is as well to get this clear: no time-wasting chit-chat about being objective. He says:
Maria Divine Mercy message dated April 30th, 2013 proclaimed boldly,
"Soon, not long afterwards, the garments worn by My sacred servants, will be altered and a new form of the Cross will be introduced. The new atrocity will not be based on the simple cross. Instead it will feature, discreetly, the head of the beast."
Apparently MDM meant crucifix - which is a Cross with a Corpus, rather than a bare cross. This, like many other of her 'prophecies' has spurred a number of speculations about this new cross, which will be such an atrocity, since MDM was not specific what will be changed. And MDM followers, who might not have the best of theological or biblical
Below are the words of the discredited doomsayer Maria Divide Mercy regarding the Pope who followed Pope Benedict XVI. Now who else could he be?:

who claims to come in My Name,"

Papal watch from the evil eyes of MDM: Part 1
Have the followers of Maria Divine Mercy any reason, besides what they've been told by the false prophet, to doubt that Pope Francis is a true Pope?
Since the canonical papal election of March, 2013, those witless horde of MDM followers with the nerve calling themselves Catholics while rejecting the newly elected Pope Francis have been on a spying mission to find fault, signs
I
watched all of the events in the Vatican leading up to the conclave
and election of Pope Francis. I was so happy and thrilled at the
election of our new Pope. I felt so part of the whole event, even
adopting a cardinal to pray for. THEN came the calumnies, detractions
and false prophecies of MDM. I felt so much sorrow, and then anger,
that our Holy Father was the recipient of so many evil attacks (...)
That was a comment recently left on our Facebook page, and it probably sums up what many of us felt seeing posts of MDM followers about our Pope.
MDM has ridiculously led her followers to believe Pope Francis is the false prophet mentioned
in the Book of Revelation who will abolish the Eucharist and
ultimately bring down the destruction of the Church.
Once you believe Pope Francis is the False Prophet it is not hard to find the evidence to condemn him. After all, there was once
a Man without sin who didn't do anything wrong – on the contrary,
all that he did was good. His name was Jesus, and he was found guilty too, even though the evidence against him was false or conflicting. He just needed to be found guilty. But would God really ask us to spy on someone and to look for evidence to condemn a person? Isn't that what Satan does?
Satan the Accuser
Jesus is described in the Bible as our advocate:
"Little children, the purpose of this letter is to keep you clear of sin. Meanwhile, if any of us does fall into sin, we have an advocate to plead our cause before the Father in the Just One, Jesus Christ". (1 John 2: 1).
He is the one who intercedes for us:
"Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us (Rom 8: 34).
He is the one pleading our cause before our Heavenly Father. He does not condemn us or accuse us. It is Satan who does exactly that - the word devil comes from Greek where diabolos means a slanderer or accuser, and it corresponds to the Hebrew name Satan which signifies an adversary, or an accuser.
The accuser of our brethren is overthrown. Day and night he stood accusing them in God’s presence; but because of the Lamb’s blood and because of the truth to which they bore witness, they triumphed over him, holding their lives cheap till death overtook them. (Revelations 12: 10-11)
This is the nature of Satan. To slander and accuse the children of God before our Heavenly Father. Those who slander, condemn and accuse Pope Francis - whose job are you really doing? Just a few comments left on Jesus to Mankind Facebook page just right after the conclave (original spelling) and the election of Pope Francis:
(...) we might need to pray, as
Our Lady asked, for Francis I because even though he is the 'best
man' for the job of dividing or 'near' destroying the Church
(otherwise satan wouldn't have chose him for his dirty work)
This so called Pope
Francis has been displaying too many acts of humility that is no
longer normal, he wants everyone to be convinced that he is humble..
You know what, a true humble people would not show off..
Pope Francis, if we will
see the initials on the other way around it is FP (Francis Pope)
meaning, False Prophet.
And as for Pope Francis,
he is not a pope nor do I accept him taking the name of our St
Francis, so I will from now on simply call him Frank.
(...) this pope is an
anti pope an imposter who will causes schisms in the catholic Church
desecrate the Holy Eucharist and undermine Sacraments Marriage
,Baptism, Confession the signs of this will soon appear then the
people who viciously attacked Maria will hang their heads in shame. (A few months later I still do not see that one coming)
But the most disturbing of all was a 'prayer request' on Jesus to Mankind page:
"Dear Lord, thank
you for protecting us and for exposing anti-Pope Francis for who he
really is: an emissary from Hell. Keep us safe from him, make
his days few and his life short, for the sake of Thine elect.
Amen."
This comment has been mentioned in Maria Divine Mercy, Schism! A Deception of Satan (see the comments) and Catholic evangelist Eddie Russell FMI mentioned reporting it to the admins of the JTM page. But a month later, the comment was still there.
The same admins who will ban detractors and remove their posts when only they sense some 'trouble' were not bothered with people who prayed for the Pope's death. That tells a lot about the organisation behind MDM and MDM herself, who by the way, it turns out is on Facebook as well. That same 'Jesus' seems to be very upset those who 'hate' his prophets:
"When you Find Hatred of any Kind in your heart, especially towards My Holy Messengers, Know that Satan has Tempted you to Sin(MDM message April 11th, 2012) .
Though implication is somewhat clear that it is MDM who is the recipient of that hate. Yet this 'Jesus' seems to be totally oblivious, if not somewhat satisfied, with all the hatred towards the Pontiff!
Jesus
does not change
Jesus does not change. He
is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow(Hebrews 13: 8). There is
no hatred in Jesus. He called his traitor 'friend' when Judas
was about to betray him, and definitely never tried to turn the other
disciples against him, though he knew fairly well what Judas was about to do:
Going at once to
Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. Jesus
replied, “Do what you came for, friend.” (Mt 26 49-50).
And when he was being
crucified, in the midst of an unimaginable suffering, he still continued to pray
for his tormentors,
'Father,
forgive them for they don't know what they do.' (Luke 23: 34).
And now Jesus is suddenly so different? Could these foul words have ever come out of His Mouth?

The cunning
imposter, who has lain in waiting in the wings, patiently, will soon

he will inflict is too hard for Me to bear, and yet, his reign will

You shall know them by their fruits
Here it is 'Jesus' who accuses and condemns; his followers just follow the suit. And if this 'Jesus' seems
to hate our Pontiff so much, is it
any wonder his followers do the same?
And since it is by fruits that we shall know them (Mt 7: 16), can the fruit of the Holy Spirit be hatred, character assassination, slander, disobedience to the authority? And you, MDM follower, aren't you behaving like the Pharisees and teachers of the law 'who were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(Luke 6: 7)?
Jesus is the same as he was yesterday. He would never condemn anyone he has died for, and that includes Pope Francis. So dear MDM follower, if you still think
this is really Jesus speaking through MDM messages, we ask you one
thing. Reread the Gospels and think again.

In his DOMINUS PARS HÆREDITATIS MEÆ blog last 03 June 2013, a reader by the name "Hannah" posted a question to Fr. Angel Sotelo about MDM:
Hi Father - hope you’re ok :) I read
the Jimmy Akin article you linked in an answer about Maria Divine Mercy.
The writer appeared to know nothing about the actual messages bar a few
facts that he manipulated to turn into an argument. The book of
revelations has a lot in it which corresponds to the messages. Sorry to
bring this up again, but after reading it, it seemed he didn’t have a
very solid or convincing argument. Thanks for your time - Hannah :)
The resignation of Pope Benedict XVI in March 2013 fueled significant debates and discussions online about the next pope being the "Petrus Romanus" or Peter the Roman foretold in the posthumously "discovered" prophecies of St. Malachy (1094 - 1148). We wouldn't bother with this notion considering that the papal prophecies of the Irish saint widely held among historical and theological experts as a forgery for very obvious reasons: (1) Neither St Malachy himself nor his contemporaries ever mentioned any prophetical writing of his, and (2) the prophecies were "discovered" 447 years after his death with correct prophecies prior to the date of discovery, but with wrong prophecies after the date of discovery. Sure, there were a few hits among them, but when you have just 5-6 good predictions out of 112, that's more a statistical provenance than anything. Whoever the forger was, he certainly made some research on the past popes between the time of St. Malachy's death and the "discovery" date to make a good enough post-dated prophecy, but since he was no clairvoyant, simply had to concoct prophetic guesswork on the future popes henceforth. It helped that he wrote in the same cryptic manner as how Nostradamus framed his predictions, so as to keep believers guessing. But no matter with what angle you look into his prophecies, they all point to the same conclusion as forgery. Never mind the fact that they are not even recognized by the Church at all.
The St.Malachy prophecy on Peter The Roman
Here is the exact passage on the controversial prophecy of the Irish saint in both its original Latin as it appeared in the Latin publication of the Lignum Vitae in 1595 and its modern English transcription:
Final part of the St. Malachy papal prophecies in Lignum Vitæ (1595), p. 311. with the red box indicating the final pope, Petrus Romanus
In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis ciuitas septicollis diruetur, & Iudex tremêdus iudicabit populum suum. Finis.
“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep through many tribulations, at the end of which, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable judge will judge his people. The end”
Anyone expecting more to that prophecy will surely be dismayed. It seems that the forger, after listing 111 popes from the death of St. Malachi hurriedly ended his prophecies by truncating the relevant "city of seven mountains" passage from Book of Revelation alluding to the reign of a pope prior to the destruction of the Catholic Church during the reign of the Antichrist. But this 112th pope that figured last on his papal prophecies was described as a good pope who would shepherd his flock through the tribulations foretold in Revelations. He certainly did not fit the description of the bad pope or the false pope who would sit on the throne of Peter blaspheming the Church in connivance with the political reign of the AntiChrist.
So How is Pope Francis the "Petrus Romanus?"
St. Malachy's papal prophecies predicted the final 112 popes (including 11 Anti-Popes who were never recognized by the Vatican) starting with Pope Celestine II elected in 1143 but without stating their names. It refers to them using titular sobriquets or short epithets, or motto, to describe each pope leading to the last pope presumably before the Apocalypse. St Malachy named the last pope as Petrus Romanus or Peter the Roman, hinting at some sort of closure where the first Pope was Peter the Galilean. The 77-year old Pontiff is the former Argentine Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergolio who assumed the name Pope Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. He became the first Jesuit and the first from Latin America to become the Vicar of Christ on earth. So how does Pope Francis fulfill St. Malachy's Prophecy. Here's what Dr. David R. Reagan says from Does Pope Francis fulfill the Malachy prophecy of the last pope? and we quote:
The argument goes like this: He named himself after Saint Francis of Assisi, but Saint Francis' real birth name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, and Pietro is the Italian version of Peter.
This is the kind of nonsensical interpretations that have historically been applied to the Malachy "prophecies." Thus, if a Malachy clue for a Pope is "Rose," the believers will search day and night to find some connection to a rose, even if it ends it to be the fact that the new Pope's great grandmother loved roses!
But it does not end there. You still have to account for Pope Francis being a Roman. Because while St. Francis had "Peter" in his birth name, he was not a Roman, but was born in the town of Assisi in the province of Perugia nestled in the Italian region called Umbria, and is 180 km from Rome. No luck there. Believers of the St. Malachy papal prophecies need to identify the new Pope with something even remotely associated with Rome to be a Roman. Breaking down his birth name to establish a connection to either Peter or Rome has become a word game challenge to these believers in their attempt to make Pope Francis the Petrus Romanus of their beloved St. Malachy. Peter literally means “the rock” and was the name Jesus gave to one of His apostles Simon the Fisherman, whom He personally appointed as the first pope, the "rock" on which He built His Church. On the other hand, the name "Jorge Mario Bergoglio" is a Latin American or Spanish name that literally means “farmer man” Bergoglio. Nothing rocky or Roman there. But what about his surname "Bergoglio?"
Pope Francis’s last name is “Bergoglio.” Berg (German) means mountain or rock. Oglio is a river in Italy (Rome). Berg-Oglio translates as Rock-Rome or “Petrus Romanus”
Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio),
266th Pontiff of the Catholic Church
Now I understand what Dr. Reagan meant by the word "nonsensical." While the pope’s last name when broken down can be translated from “Berg” meaning mountain in German, a little geography will show that Oglio is a tributary flowing left of the Po River in Lombardy which sits on the northern region of Italy. Unfortunately, the Po River does not connect to Rome. It ends at a point around 550 km north of Rome. Now if you want to use the Spanish meaning of the word "Oglio," it is an old form of the word "Olio" which means a hodgepodge, a mixture or a potpourri that can apply to a collection of things, art pieces, music or even several ingredients in a dish. Again, nothing rocky or Roman there. Then there's the research finding, verifiable in wikipedia, that the new Pope's parents were of Italian roots. His father was an Italian immigrant, Mario José Bergoglio, who was a railway worker born in Portacomaro in the Province of Asti in Italy's Piedmont region, while his mother was Regina María Sívori, born in Buenos Aires to an immigrant family from the Piemotese-Genoese region in Northern Italy. Now, the only problem is that being Italian does not equate to being a Roman. That's like saying being an American is also being a New Yorker. What if I was born in LA? and worked there? Would that make me a New Yorker too? But to believers of St. Malachy's prophecy, that's as good as it gets. So now you have a Pope whose surname means a mountain straddling a river that does not even pass through Rome and whose parents have Italian but not Roman roots. Either that or his idol from whom he assumed the name Francis had a birth name with "Peter" in it, but was not a Roman. Even if you combined all these, the resulting explanation as to how the new Pope is the Petrus Romanus is as hilariously strained as saying his favorite cat is named Petrus and had a laundry women named Romana, hence, he must be Petrus Romanus. We just couldn't help but laugh.
The Great Letdown
Lovers of sensational prophecies with a hint of gossip mongering will surely be disappointed that nothing in Pope Francis can put him in direct association with Peter The Roman - the only way for St. Malachy's prophecy to be considered fulfilled. Attempting to do so, which Malachy's supporters have ardently pursued to its absurdest ends, only establishes indirect and forced associations that strain and stretch credulity to make them contemptuously laughable to say the least.
Were the Cardinals during the conclave that elected Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the Papacy familiar with or even aware about the St. Malachy papal prophecies? You have to be so naive to even think they weren't. Perhaps the better question is: Did they allow their knowledge of the prophecies to influence their choice? Not if you believe that the Holy Spirit was at work behind their choice. Now don't you just love conspiracy theorists? They claim that because the electors knew about the prophecy, they made sure the new Pope would not fit Petrus Romanus. But even if they wanted to elect a Roman cardinal with a name of Peter, they wouldn’t have found any from the Cardinals attending the March 2013 Conclave. While there was a Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson who bears the name of the prophesized Pope, he was from Ghana, not Rome. There were no Pietros among them either. The closest would be two Pierres: Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir of Antioch and Jean-Pierre Ricard from Marsaille, France. Then you had one Pedro: Pedro Rubiano Sáenz from Cartago, Colombia. And while there were many Italians, there were no Roman-born cardinals in the running to be Benedict's successor. You can check that out here for the list of Cardinals who attended the Conclave and were in the running to be Pontiff. We won't argue with conspiracy theorists, except to say that the conclave that elected Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the papacy was the handiwork of the Holy Spirit who had nothing to do with the Malachy prophecies in the first place. Through His guidance, the ascendancy of Pope Francis sent a clear message around the world affirming and confirming that the St. Malachy prophesy is nothing more than a contrivance and a forgery. This blog post from Fr. John Corrigan was lifted from his "Blog of a Country Priest" posted last 13th of May, on the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. Fr. Corrigan serves the St. Mary Parish in Hamilton, Ontario under the Parish Priest Fr. Patrick Mugavin.
Today is the 96th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady’s of Fátima.
Later today, in Fátima, Portugal, the archbishop of Rio de Janeiro will consecrate to our Lady the pilgrims he will host for World Youth Day. The college of Portuguese bishops will join him at the shrine to consecrate Francis’ pontificate to our Lady of Fátima, at the pope’s personal request.
Here’s a three minute rundown of the Fátima apparitions for those who don’t know or need reminding:
In view of the supernatural events which occurred at Fátima, and Pope Francis’ evident belief in and devotion to the apparitions, today might be a good day to raise the spectre of mystics and visionaries who claim that Francis is an anti-pope and agent of the anti-Christ.
(I decided I wouldn’t blog about this, since I don’t want to add to its notoriety. But I have heard of priests, in Australia, who felt compelled to denounce these false prophets from the pulpit, such is the misplaced enthusiasm in some parishes.)
The most famous of these visionaries is “Maria Divine Mercy,” an anonymous Irish woman who claims to receive locutions from our Lord and the saints. She shot to fame in the wake of Pope Benedict’s resignation because of a locution she published nearly twelve months earlier, which seemed to prophesy his unusual departure:
My poor Holy Vicar, Pope Benedict XVI, will be ousted from the Holy See in Rome.
Last year, my daughter, I told you of the plot, within the corridors of the Vatican.
A plan to destroy My Holy Vicar was devised in secret on the 17th March, 2011, and this will come to fruition, for it has been foretold.
At the present time, more than eighteen thousand people follow Maria Divine Mercy on Facebook, and who knows how many people have paid for her ebooks?
There is to be a particular insult, which will be inflicted upon My Holy Name, in an effort to desecrate Me, during Holy Week. This wicked gesture, during Holy Week, will be seen by those who keep their eyes open and this will be one of the signs by which you will know that the imposter, who sits on the throne in My Church on earth, does not come from Me.
Fr. John Corrigan
I’d like to think that followers of Maria Divine Mercy’s messages paid extra attention to Pope Francis during Holy Week — and were at least perplexed when he didn’t deliver any desecration worthy of the name. The only gesture which remotely comes close was the pope’s Holy Thursday ritual feet-washing, which incorporated women and Muslims.
It was a controversial gesture, to be sure, but a wicked one? A “particular insult,” which desecrates the Lord himself? If this is the best the Anti-Christ can do, then maybe John’s Apocalypse is a bit overhyped.
Personally, though, I’m inclined to stick with the scriptural account and expect much worse from the forces of evil. Speaking of scripture, the Bible provides us with a measure for assessing prophets:
I will give thee a test; If the prophet foretells something in the Lord’s name, and it does not come about, this was no message from the Lord; it was the prophet’s vain conceit that imagined it; let no word of his strike terror into thee. (Deut 18:22)
That leads me to conclude that Maria Divine Mercy is a false prophet. Let no word of hers strike you with terror. Is Pope Francis an imposter? No. There’s nothing to see here. Carry on.
Eternal damnation awaits the souls of MDM and its followers
when they disobey the authority of the Church they purport to defend,
cast aspersions on the head of the Catholic Church, and defend
the heresies behind the messages despite every effort to point
the errors in them. The commit scandal by deceiving the faithful
to commit the same sin in embracing messages that enjoy
no Church approval.
Maria
Divine Mercy denies Pope as I predicted.
Whilst I have no intention of continuing on about Maria Divine Mercy in our
newsletters, I do want Bishops, Priests, and Catholics everywhere to be aware
of this fast growing Catholic cult, and so I hope this report goes some way to
achieve that.
The Holy Trinity is three seperate
