Shameless Popery: How We Can Know Francis is Pope

Is Francis really a pope, or could he possibly be a heretic and an anti-pope? This is a question that Joe Heschmeyer ,  a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Kansas City, answers on a Shameless Popery blog. Highly recommended reading for those with any doubts in their mind.

"In recent days, there's been a nasty dustup between several prominent Catholic bloggers. The argument was ostensibly about “tone,” and it quickly devolved into a lot of bruised egos, and personal attacks on other Catholics for making personal attacks. It was an ugly spectacle, and I've stayed well clear of it...

  1. Pope Paul IV, Bull Cum ex Apostolatus Officio, Feb. 15, 1559:

    “1… Remembering also that, where danger is greater, it must more fully and more diligently be counteracted, We have been concerned lest false prophets or others, even if they have only secular jurisdiction, should wretchedly ensnare the souls of the simple, and drag with them into perdition, destruction and damnation countless peoples committed to their care and rule,
    either in spiritual or in temporal matters; and We have been concerned also lest it may befall Us to see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by the prophet Daniel, in the holy place. In view of this, Our desire has been to fulfill our Pastoral duty, insofar as, with the help of God, We are able, so as to arrest the foxes who are occupying themselves in the destruction of
    the vineyard of the Lord and to keep the wolves from the sheepfolds, lest We seem to be dumb watchdogs that cannot bark and lest We perish with the wicked husbandman and be compared with the hireling…

    6. In addition, [by this Our Constitution, which is to remain valid in perpetuity We enact, determine, decree and define:-] that if ever at any time it shall appear that any Bishop, even if he be acting as an Archbishop, Patriarch or Primate; or any Cardinal of the
    aforesaid Roman Church, or, as has already been mentioned, any legate, or even the Roman Pontiff, prior to his promotion or his elevation as Cardinal or Roman Pontiff, has deviated from the Catholic Faith or fallen into some heresy:

    (i) the promotion or elevation, even if it shall have been uncontested and by the unanimous assent of all the Cardinals, shall be null, void and worthless;

    (ii) it shall not be possible for it to acquire validity (nor for it to be said that it has thus acquired validity) through the acceptance of the office, of consecration, of subsequent authority, nor through possession of administration, nor through the putative
    enthronement of a Roman Pontiff, or Veneration, or obedience accorded to such by all, nor through the lapse of any period of time in the foregoing situation;

    (iii) it shall not be held as partially legitimate in any way…

    (vi) those thus promoted or elevated shall be deprived automatically, and without need for any further declaration, of all dignity, position, honour, title, authority, office and power…

    10. No one at all, therefore, may infringe this document of our approbation, reintroduction, sanction, statute and derogation of wills and decrees, or by rash presumption contradict it. If anyone, however, should presume to attempt this, let him know that he is destined to incur the wrath of Almighty God and of the blessed Apostles, Peter and Paul.

    Given in Rome at Saint Peter's in the year of the Incarnation of the Lord 1559, 15th February, in the fourth year of our Pontificate.
    + I, Paul, Bishop of the Catholic Church…”

    With the fullness of his papal authority, Pope Paul IV declared that the election of a heretic is invalid, even if it takes place with the unanimous consent of the cardinals and is accepted by all.

    1. If you like Catholic history so much I suggest you read the following from the Council of Constance in the context of Mary Carberry's litany of slurs against the Church. It isn't too hard to imagine what spirit she may be "channeling."

      “This most holy general synod of Constance, representing the Catholic Church, legitimately assembled in the Holy Spirit for the purpose of extirpating schism, errors and heresies . . . It was found that some, indeed many, of the articles [260 of John Wyclif] thus examined were and are notoriously heretical and have already been condemned by holy fathers, some are offensive to the ears of the devout and some are rash and seditious. This holy synod, therefore, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, repudiates and condemns, by this perpetual decree, the aforesaid articles and each one of them in particular; and it forbids each and every Catholic henceforth, under pain of anathema, to preach, teach, or hold the said articles or any one of them. . .”

      “17. The pope, who falsely calls himself the servant of God's servants, has no status in the work of the Gospel but only in the work of the world. If he has any rank, it is in the order of demons, of those who serve God rather in a blameworthy way.”

      “20. The pope is antichrist made manifest. Not only this particular person but also the multitude of popes, from the time of the endowment of the church, of cardinals, of bishops and of their other accomplices, make up the composite, monstrous person of antichrist. . .”

      39. “The powers that are claimed by the pope . . . are pretended and were diabolically introduced in order to seduce subjects . . .”

      From Mary Carberry: “The day when the deceit of the beast will be exposed for all to see will be a day no one will forget. For that day, as the world will see the imposter, the antichrist, rise with My Crown on his head – dressed in the robes of red – will be the day when fire will pour from his mouth. As the horror finally sinks in, fire will envelop him and he and all those who pledged allegiance to him will be cast into the abyss.” Nov.12, 2013

  2. <+3John 1:42
    And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter). …11For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you. 12Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ." 13Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?…

    Judas did not remain an apostle--Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Jude the brother of James. 14All these were persevering with one mind in prayer with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

    15In those days Peter rising up in the midst of the brethren, said: (now the number of persons together was about an hundred and twenty:) 16Men, brethren, the scripture must needs be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the leader of them that apprehended Jesus: 17Who was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. 18And he indeed hath possessed a field of the reward of iniquity, and being hanged, burst asunder in the midst: and all his bowels gushed out. 19And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so that the same field was called in their tongue, Haceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

    20For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell therein. And his bishopric let another take.

    21Wherefore of these men who have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us, 22Beginning from the baptism of John, until the day wherein he was taken up from us, one of these must be made a witness with us of his resurrection. 23And they appointed two, Joseph, called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24And praying, they said: Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, 25To take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas hath by transgression fallen, that he might go to his own place.

    Infallibility is based on the chair in the temple rather as an evil high priest in the times of Jesus prophesied correctly with evil intent of one man's dying for the people intending to murder him--not on teaching and morals and faith in the bible.

    The Holy-spirit never leaves--the church is not who you think. THE CHURCH IS THE SHEEP...ONLY.<+3

    2. Sadly, you are not alone feeling safe in the arms of this entity called "Maria Divine Mercy."

      “It’s an absurd dichotomy to think one can live with Jesus, but without the Church, to follow Jesus outside the Church, to love Jesus and not the Church” Pope Francis quoted this by Pope Paul in a homily in May, 2013.

      CCC # 846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:

      “Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door.”

      “Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.”

      Catholics must remain within the Catholic Church in order to be saved and must humbly submit in obedience. It is the sin of calumny and rash judgement to promote Carberry's relentless, diabolical campaign to undermine the reputation of the Catholic Church and her leaders with the most ignominious slurs, accusations and curses imaginable.

  3. Francis seems to be turning catholicism into a type of askhenazi judaism which welcomes all regardless of whether or not they are atheist.
